animal "crackers"

we went to Target the other night for toothpaste and trash bags...
but I needed to look at a few hundred other things.

while we were passing the "grocery" section, Animal Crackers jumped out at me (as things often do at Target), and I needed them.
While I was deciding whether or not to spend the $0.59, I accidentally broke the string...
and then Matt said "now how are you going to carry it?" <--- hilarious reason # 7,598,201 why I married him
then he started singing a little song:
"animal crackers in my soup, monkeys and lions(?) loop de loop" <--- hilarious reason # 7,598,202 why I married him

I asked him where the song came from, but he didn't know.  Then we had a discussion about whether animal crackers are a sweet snack, or truly a "cracker" for things like soup.

then later, he figured out where the song came from:
love.
also, I secretly assume that our children will look like Shirley Temple.

burrito friends

Once upon a time a girl and her brother were invited by her brother’s friend to have breakfast burritos with other friends at a random Betos on a Saturday morning in March.

After ordering her burrito, the girl took it upon herself to introduce herself to the two strangers dressed in black who arrived to join the group of breakfast burrito friends.

“Hi, I’m Drew’s sister, Megan” (she was always sure to make it clear that Drew was her brother and not her boyfriend when meeting new men)

The man with the beard smiled a little, and said his name was Matt (she was surprised how much she liked his smile)… the other guy didn’t say much, but someone told her his name was Trent.

The burritos were okay, but the company was good, and the girl spent her time observing the strangers in black.  She was trying to hear everything they said, because they were funny… but also trying to not be creepy about it.

When they left breakfast, the girl told her brother how cute Matt was 12 times until her brother told her he would barf if she said it again…

The girl didn’t know why, but she couldn’t stop thinking about that stranger in black… there was just something about him.

WEEKS later the girl received a text from the mutual friend asking if Matt could have her number.  She agreed.

DAYS later she received a text from him.  She was impressed with his correct use of punctuation and grammar even while texting.

They wanted to meet, but didn’t because of this or that… then texting sort of stopped, but she still thought about him a lot.  She sent him a text one day and said “did you forget about me?”  To which he said “who is this?”

She felt incredibly stupid, but explained and then apologized for the interruption in a way she hoped was charming.  She didn’t know how it happened, but somehow he managed to trick her into chasing him.

Luckily… the conversation recovered, and he eventually asked her to go to The Bayou for what would be their first date.  The date almost didn’t happen because the girl had a bad habit of hyperventilating before first dates and then not going… but she called her sister, and her sister managed to convince her that she should go on the date.

The date went well.
They liked each other.
A lot of other stuff happened.
They got married.

And then on their first valentine’s day as a married couple, he took the girl to the place where they had their first date, and they sat at the same table, and talked about how nice happily ever after is.

birthday sultan

friday was dad's birthday.
he is the best ever, and we all love him so much.
we had a big party at his house.

we gave him a gift card for the new glasses he needs with a note that included this picture:

later he blew out his candles, and we had cake.

and then yesterday we went to see the Bruins win

happy birthday, Otis.
love you.

remember

how I got to go work in Scottsdale at the Fort McDowell?
and my name everywhere made me feel right at home?
and when I got to my room, I had a wine and cheese platter waiting for me?

and in between meetings I decided to take a picture of myself and the view from my room?
(and then regretted my decision to take all pictures with my phone and leave the camera at home?)

and took pictures of neat cactuses ? (cacti?)
and later learned from Matt that they are more than 100 years old because of their arms

and went for a gallery stroll in 73 degree weather?

and then to a delicious Italian restaurant which had adorable grape lights hanging from the patio ceiling?
I remember.
it was awesome.
