oh man, I love whales so much.

I don't know when it started.  I just know that I get teary whenever I think about them.

my mom and I went to see Big Miracle on opening night .
when I heard that there was going to be a movie about whales starring John Krasinski (also lovable) I hyperventilated a little.

how was the movie?  as a movie, it was wholesome entertainment - fun for the whole family.  (my mom loooooooooved it - it's a great choice for moms).  Drew Barrymore was a little too Drew Barrymore-y for my taste... and it certainly had its "ugh - painfully cheesy" moments, but otherwise it was decent.  The theme and the lesson should be in more movies.

as a story? - it was fantastic.  and true (or based on a true story - I loved the actual footage during the credits).  I really love that this happened and that the whole world watched and wanted to save three whales... for no other reason than they needed to be saved.
I only cried four times, and of those, I only cried hysterically once.

I have thought a lot about why I love whales so much.  I have come to this conclusion:
(get ready to barf - I realize I sound like I'm 5)
if you're the biggest thing, you can hold the most love.
I love that they are so big, and so powerful, and so smart...but so gentle.
it's captivating, almost enchanting - and I think there is a lesson for the universe in there somewhere:
big and powerful and smart does not equal mean or violent or terrible.

if the biggest creature is kind and lovable... that's hopeful for me and for the world.
and if you still need reasons for loving whales (?) please direct your attention to this infographic
(I love a good infographic)... the last point re: heart-shaped spouts just about put me over the edge.

whale you be my valentine?

I almost ate bacon

text from my sweet sister-in-law last night:
"Dear Megan, It has been five whole days since your last blog post. :( No whale movie review?"

I have such a devoted audience.  (do 8 or 9 people count as an "audience"?)
yes.

so here's what I've been doing since my last post:

embroider-outlined 26 letters for a very special project.
with just enough thread.

I made cupcakes and other treats for the Superbowl, and of course displayed them in football shapes.

I almost ate bacon.  I have been craving meat.  One day last week I couldn't take it anymore and ordered a bacon and gouda sandwich from starbucks... but chickened out.
I did however enjoy the bacon essence that was left on the sandwich.

and I went to see whale movie.
which I will review in my next post :)
oh man.  it was good.

um... that's called a duplex

I talked to Drew tonight.
he told me all about his neat new apartment.
but didn't do an awesome job describing it.

he said: "it's not like doors doors doors.  It's lots of little buildings that aren't houses, and there are only two in each one that share one wall and we each have our own door"

so I said: "you mean a duplex?"

and then he said: "it's not like doors doors doors. It's lots of little buildings that aren't houses, and there are only two in each one that share one wall and we each have our own door" again.

so because Drew is one of my most loyal blog readers and because I'm such a fantastic artist, I decided I would just draw what he was describing to see if I understood correctly, and post it on my blog.

thank goodness I have finely tuned drawing skills to fall back on when words just aren't enough.

also, Drew I miss you.

be mine.

I have a special place in my heart for senior communities, and assisted living homes.
a lot of those people never have visitors or mail or holiday cheer of any kind... for some reason I was thinking about that last week and got inspired to make valentines for one of those communities.

(bonus: I had an excuse for a craft project and an excuse to hang out with my sister and mom).
when I called to tell them about my idea, they were on-board too.

(julianna found this delicious recipe for dinner - I'm going to make them again for the super bowl.)
our project was very successful and made my heart happy.
